Unitech Training Academy Bringing Electrical Program to Houma Campus
HOUMA, La. – Unitech Training Academy is expanding its skilled-trades training in Houma with the addition of its new Electrical program beginning in October.
The program will give students in the Houma area another pathway to prepare for careers in the skilled trades through hands-on, career-focused training.
“Adding the Electrical program in Houma is a direct response to workforce needs brought on by several current and upcoming development projects in the community,” said Dr. Noah Brandon, President of Unitech Training Academy. “South Louisiana depends on a strong skilled workforce, and we want to give more people the opportunity to gain practical skills that can help them build long-term careers close to home.”
Unitech’s Electrical program prepares students for entry-level positions in the electrical field through classroom instruction and hands-on training. Students learn electrical safety, residential, commercial and industrial wiring, troubleshooting, use of electrical tools and equipment, and application of the National Electrical Code (NEC®).
Students also train in electrical labs designed to provide practical experience with the tools, systems and scenarios they may encounter in the workplace.
Graduates are prepared to pursue opportunities as electrical trainees working under licensed electricians in residential, commercial and industrial settings. The program does not lead directly to electrical licensure but provides students with a foundation of technical knowledge and practical skills as they begin careers in the trade.
The expansion builds on Unitech’s existing Electrical program, currently offered at its campuses in Lafayette, Alexandria, and West Monroe.
Enrollment for the Electrical program at the Houma campus is underway, with classes expected to begin in October.
