Unitech Training Academy Adds to Workforce Programs with Launch of HVAC Program at Lafayette Campus

Unitech Training Academy is expanding its skilled-trades offerings in Lafayette with the launch of a new Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) program. Classes are set to begin in September.

The new program is designed to prepare students with the hands-on skills and technical knowledge needed to pursue entry-level opportunities in the HVAC field while helping meet the workforce needs of employers throughout Acadiana.

“Employers across our communities need people with practical, job-ready skills, and we believe career training should reflect those needs,” said Dr. Noah Brandon, President of Unitech Training Academy. “Adding HVAC to our Lafayette campus is in direct response to the demand for highly skilled and well-trained technicians needed in the Acadiana area.”

The HVAC program joins Unitech’s Electrical program as part of the institution’s growing focus on skilled-trades education.

Students can complete the HVAC program in as few as eight months. The traditional, in-person program includes 750 hours of training, with 390 hours dedicated to shop and lab experience. Students will learn to install, maintain, diagnose and repair residential and light commercial HVAC systems through technical instruction, practical applications and simulated service conditions.

Training will include heating and cooling system operation and troubleshooting; electrical fundamentals, controls and diagnostics; refrigeration principles and refrigerant service; air distribution and duct systems; equipment installation and system performance; and smart HVAC systems and emerging technologies.

Students will also prepare for EPA Section 608 Certification, an important credential for technicians who work with regulated refrigerants.

The addition of HVAC reflects Unitech’s broader focus on preparing people for careers their communities need. By expanding skilled-trades education alongside its healthcare and technology programs, Unitech is building training opportunities around fields that support local employers, infrastructure and economic growth.

Career preparation is also incorporated throughout the program. Unitech’s Career Development team works with students on résumé development, interviewing skills, professionalism, employer expectations and preparation for the transition from training to the workforce.

Enrollment for the HVAC program at Unitech’s Lafayette campus is now open, with the first classes scheduled to begin in September.
