From One Building to a Life-Changing Legacy: The Story of Deanna Head

In 1997, Deanna Head unlocked the doors to a small building with a big vision. A single mother at the time, she had no investors and no safety net—just determination, a calling, and a promise to pay the rent once her first class began. She bought her first lab equipment from the Salvation Army and opened the doors of what would become Unitech Training Academy.

Deanna didn’t just start a school. She built a bridge—for people facing barriers, for single parents like herself, for those seeking a second chance, a first start, or simply a better future. Having experienced abuse, homelessness, and adversity firsthand, she understood what it meant to fight for stability—and she wanted Unitech to be a place where others could do the same.

“Knowing who I am and where I’ve come from,” she says, “I try to be mindful of those who want to better their lives. I get great joy in watching our graduates complete their education and become employees—it’s a life-changing experience.”

Today, Deanna’s vision has grown into six Unitech campuses across Louisiana and a thriving online division serving students in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. But her mission remains the same: empower individuals with real skills, real support, and real opportunities.

Her commitment to changing lives doesn’t end with career training. Deanna is also the founder of For My Child Learning Center, with locations in Lafayette and Alexandria. Grounded in three pillars—nurture, stimulate, and prepare—the centers help guide children through their earliest and most important years.

A passionate philanthropist, Deanna has spent decades supporting causes close to her heart. She’s a former board member of Faith House of Acadiana, which provides refuge for survivors of domestic violence. Her generosity also extends to organizations like Big Brothers Big Sisters of Acadiana, Animal Rescue Foundation, and the Children’s Shelter.

From one rented classroom to a statewide network of opportunity, Deanna Head has built more than a business. She’s built a legacy of compassion, courage, and careers that change lives.
