MORE THAN A RIBBON CUTTING: A New Chapter for New Orleans
Unitech Training Academy officially celebrated the opening of its new New Orleans campus last week with a ribbon cutting ceremony attended by students, employees, community leaders, employer partners, elected officials, and members of the Jefferson Chamber.
The event marked an exciting new chapter for the campus, which recently relocated to a modern learning environment designed to better serve students preparing for careers in healthcare.
“Today’s ribbon cutting represents our renewed commitment and investment in the Greater New Orleans Area,” said Dr. Noah Brandon, President of Unitech Training Academy. ” And most importantly, it represents the students who walk through these doors every day with the goal of building a better future for themselves and their families.”
The celebration featured remarks from Dr. Brandon, student speaker Carimar Jimenez, community partners, and newly appointed Campus President Terell Briggs.
Jimenez, a Medical Assistant student, shared how her education at Unitech is preparing her for a career in healthcare and her long-term goal of becoming a registered nurse.
“Choosing Unitech was honestly one of the best decisions I’ve made,” Jimenez said. “I’m thankful that Unitech has helped me take the first step toward my future.”
During his remarks, Dr. Brandon recognized the dedication of the campus faculty and staff, whose commitment to student success continues to make a difference in the lives of students and graduates throughout the Greater New Orleans area.
He also officially welcomed Terell Briggs as Campus President, noting his extensive leadership experience and passion for student success.
The celebration also comes on the heels of another milestone for the campus. Earlier this summer, Unitech’s New Orleans campus earned gold in the Higher Education category of the Best of Jefferson community choice awards, recognizing the campus’ commitment to student success and workforce development.
“That recognition is meaningful because it reflects the confidence this community has placed in our campus. It speaks to the hard work of our employees, the success of our graduates, and the impact our students continue to make throughout the region,” Brandon said.
He also gave special thanks to building owners, Robertson Street Ventures, and the management team at Commercial Brokers Property Management, for having the facility ready on move in day.
Following the ceremony, guests toured the new campus, met with employees and students, and enjoyed refreshments while exploring the learning spaces that will prepare future healthcare professionals for careers across the region.

Unitech Training Academy’s Houma Campus to Host Care, Career and Community Connection Event
Unitech Training Academy’s Houma campus is hosting a Care, Career and Community Connection event on Thursday, July 30, bringing together healthcare, community resources and career exploration in one location.
The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Houma campus, located at 6007 W. Park Ave. Admission is free, and community members of all ages are invited to attend.
The Care, Career and Community Connection event is designed to connect residents with valuable health resources, local organizations, and career opportunities while showcasing the hands-on healthcare education available at Unitech.
Throughout the day, attendees can take advantage of free health screenings, meet representatives from community organizations and hiring partners, tour the campus and learn more about Unitech’s healthcare training programs. Visitors also can see how students develop the practical skills needed to make a difference in the communities they serve.
A community blood drive will also be held during the event, with donation information available on-site.
As part of the event, Unitech students are leading a community donation drive benefiting local students, individuals and families. Donations of school supplies and personal hygiene items will be accepted through the day of the event.
Requested donations include backpacks, notebooks, folders, pencils, toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, soap, deodorant and other everyday essentials. Every contribution will help support individuals and families throughout the Houma area.
“The Care, Career and Community Connection event reflects our commitment to serving the communities where we live and work,” said Dr. Calvin McFadden, Campus President. “Whether someone is interested in a healthcare career, looking for local resources or simply wants to give back, we hope they’ll join us for a day centered on making connections and strengthening our community.”

Unitech Training Academy’s New Orleans Campus Earns Gold in Best of Jefferson 2026
Unitech Training Academy’s New Orleans Campus has been named the Gold Winner in the Higher Education category of the 2026 Best of Jefferson Awards.
The annual community recognition program celebrates the businesses, organizations, and services residents trust and recommend most. The awards are determined through public nominations and voting, recognizing organizations that have made a meaningful impact throughout Jefferson Parish.
The recognition comes as Unitech’s New Orleans Campus recently relocated to a new campus in Elmwood Oaks Office Park. The move was designed to provide students with an enhanced learning environment while increasing accessibility for those pursuing careers in healthcare.
Receiving the Gold award reflects the strong support of the Jefferson Parish community and reinforces Unitech’s commitment to preparing students for in-demand careers through hands-on, career-focused training.

More than 1,900 businesses, organizations, and individuals competed across 256 categories, generating over 138,000 votes in The Best of Jefferson contest.

Unitech Training Academy Names Terell Briggs Campus President in New Orleans
NEW ORLEANS – Unitech Training Academy has named Terell Briggs as Campus President of its New Orleans campus.
Briggs brings extensive leadership experience in higher education, having served students at historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs), community colleges, and private four-year institutions. Throughout his career, he has focused on advancing student success by building inclusive campus cultures, strengthening student engagement, and using data-informed strategies to improve retention and completion outcomes.
Originally from Los Angeles, California, Briggs is recognized for his collaborative leadership style and his commitment to creating an environment where students feel supported from enrollment through graduation. His experience spans student affairs, enrollment management, and institutional leadership, giving him a broad perspective on the challenges and opportunities facing today’s students.
In addition to his higher education experience, Briggs brings a background in sports and wellness that has shaped his holistic approach to leadership. He believes student well-being is closely connected to academic achievement and emphasizes creating an environment where students can thrive both personally and professionally.
As Campus President, Briggs will oversee the day-to-day operations of the New Orleans campus, supporting students, faculty, and staff while continuing to strengthen partnerships throughout the Greater New Orleans community.

Unitech Training Academy Receives Six-Year Reaffirmation of Accreditation
Unitech Training Academy has officially received reaffirmation of accreditation from the Council on Occupational Education (COE), extending the institution’s accreditation for another six years, effective June 4, 2026.
The action follows a comprehensive review conducted by COE that included an institutional self-study and a multi-campus site visit earlier this year. The reaffirmation recognizes that Unitech continues to meet the council’s standards for academic quality, student achievement, institutional effectiveness, and fiscal responsibility.
The six-year reaffirmation is the result of months of preparation and years of work across the organization. Faculty, staff, campus leadership, and home office departments all contributed to the review process by documenting outcomes, demonstrating compliance, and showcasing the work happening every day to support students.
This achievement reinforces Unitech’s mission of providing students with a quality career education and the support they need to succeed.

Unitech Training Academy Relocates New Orleans Campus to New Facility
NEW ORLEANS — A new address, the same mission. Unitech Training Academy’s New Orleans Campus has relocated to 201 Evans Road, Suite 400, with students returning to in-person classes this week at the new facility.
The campus offers training in EKG/Phlebotomy Technician, Medical Assistant and Pharmacy Technician programs, preparing students for careers in some of the region’s most in-demand healthcare fields.
The move marks a new chapter for the campus, which has served the Greater New Orleans community since opening on Dec. 8, 2011. The new location provides updated classroom and student spaces while allowing the campus to continue delivering the hands-on training and personal support that have become hallmarks of the Unitech experience.
“Education has the power to change the course of a person’s life,” said Dr. Noah Brandon, President and CEO of Unitech Training Academy. “Our move to this new location will create more opportunities for students, strengthen our connection to the community, and continue the work we’ve accomplished in New Orleans since 2011. We’re proud to empower students in gaining the skills, confidence, and support they need to move forward.”
Director of Education Berta Jefferson said the new facility reflects the campus’s commitment to serving students and employers throughout the region.

Choosing a new career path is a big decision. You want training that fits your goals, instructors who care about your success, and hands-on experience that prepares you for the real world. At Unitech Training Academy, we have spent nearly 30 years training students for careers in healthcare, information technology (IT), and the skilled trades. Cory Williams is one of the first graduates of our Electrical program from our West Monroe, LA campus, which provides hands-on training that helps turn curiosity about wiring, circuits, and troubleshooting into meaningful skills. His journey from a family business into a brand-new trade says a lot about what’s possible when you take a chance on yourself. A Fresh Start Begins with One Decision
Before enrolling at Unitech Training Academy, Williams worked alongside his father in the family business. “I was working with my dad. He owns a water meter reading company,” Williams says. “I was making pretty good money, but it wasn’t the money I wanted for myself.”
Like many students, Williams wasn’t unhappy with where he was. He just wanted something different. He was looking for an opportunity to build new skills and create a career path of his own. After researching training programs online, he discovered Unitech Training Academy. Sometimes the first step toward a new career path is simply exploring your options.
Why He Chose the Electrical Program at Unitech Training Academy
When comparing schools, every student has different priorities. For Williams, two things stood out: the shorter course time and career development assistance. He wanted a program that would allow him to build practical skills without spending years in school. Just as important, he wanted support when it came time to begin looking for employment.
That’s what attracted him to Unitech Training Academy. Our Electrical training program combines classroom instruction with hands-on learning so students can develop skills in an engaging environment. If you ask many graduates what made the biggest impact on their education, many of them will mention their instructors. Williams was no exception. “My instructor filled all of us with great knowledge, and that class wouldn’t have been what it was without Mr. Bobby Russell,” Williams explains. “He put us on game with everything electrical, and he even gave us some knowledge on welding and HVAC since we’d be around that anyway.”
Strong instruction goes beyond teaching technical concepts. Great instructors also help students understand how different skills connect in real work environments. He credits Omelia Steward, Career Development Coach, with preparing him to enter the workforce. “Omelia is the best. She’s a very kind and heartwarming person, and she did all she could to help us find a job,” he adds. Preparing for a career involves technical training. However, resume guidance, interview preparation, and career support can help students feel more confident as they begin applying for jobs.
Firsthand Experience Builds Confidence
While learning electrical concepts in the classroom is important, applying those skills is what makes them stick. Unitech Training Academy’s Electrical Training program emphasizes hands-on learning, allowing students to gain practical experience before entering the workforce.
For Williams, that experience had an impact. Working with tools and equipment and practicing real-world scenarios helps students better understand the skills they’ll use in the field. Hands-on learning encourages problem-solving, teamwork, and confidence, while students practice applying classroom concepts.
Advice for Future Students
Williams’ biggest message for anyone considering a career change is don’t wait. “There are so many life-changing opportunities in the electrical field or just any trade or medical field.” Looking back, he wishes he had taken the leap sooner.
His advice ends with a reminder that resonates with many people who are thinking about making a change, stating, “You don’t know what waits for you until you reach for it.” Starting something new can feel intimidating, but every career begins with a first step.
Graduates who pursue electrical careers in Louisiana should be aware that additional field experience and licensing requirements apply before becoming licensed electricians.

Alexa Ashworth Named Campus President of Unitech Training Academy’s Alexandria Campus
Unitech Training Academy has named Alexa Ashworth as Campus President of its Alexandria campus.
Ashworth brings a background in education, leadership, and community engagement to the role. Throughout her career, she has served as a classroom teacher, curriculum coordinator, and assistant principal, helping students and educators achieve success both inside and outside the classroom.
A graduate of Northwestern State University, Ashworth earned a Bachelor of Science degree before completing a Master of Science in Educational Leadership from Louisiana Christian University. Her experience includes curriculum development, instructional leadership, accreditation support, data-driven decision making, and community service.
“As an educator and leader, I am passionate about helping people succeed and grow,” said Ashworth. “Believing strongly in leading through service, I am excited to support the continued growth of the Alexandria campus and help create opportunities that lead to meaningful careers for students and the community.”
In addition to her work in education, Ashworth has served on the Glenmora City Council, where she supported community and economic development initiatives.
