Why a Dental Assisting Program?

Dental assisting is different from the duties of a dental hygienist in that the assistant often works side-by-side with the dentist. As such, dental assistants perform many basic but important duties.

What sort of places can I work as a dental assistant ?

Because for every dentist there is a dental assistant, there are many different positions for dental assisting available. Some places of occupation include dental practices (solo, group, and speciality practices), hospital dental clinics, dental school clinics, and public health dentistry.

The Dental Assisting program is available at our Alexandria, Baton Rouge, Houma, Lafayette, and New Orleans campuses.

What are some of the specific things you learn in the program?

At Unitech, our students learn to perform many of the following as they go through the program:

• An understanding of basic anatomy and physiology, nutrition and oral health and preventative techniques

• Dental services that include billing and coding

• Performing tasks such as x-rays, dental impressions, sterilization of equipment

• Providing patients with appropriate instruction and comfort during dental procedures

What is hybrid?
Our hybrid model allows students to work from home as well as at school in a face-to-face setting. Approximately 60% of your work will be done on campus and 40% will be completed at home through our e-learning software. This new format has given many students the flexibility they need for success.
